GFS Platform: The Girls Friendly Society in England and Wales - Respect, encouragement and skills for all young women. Working with women where they are since 1975
Skegness

GFS Platform Skegness has worked with young mothers aged 14 to 25 since 1997 and has satellite bases at Mablethorpe and Alford. GFS Platform Skegness works with upwards of 50 young mothers a week and has a satellite base at Alford.

Many of the women worked with have under-achieved at school, and often lack the confidence and resources to pursue futher education via the usual channels. Research suggests that young people in seaside towns, dependent on tourist activities may unconsciously narrow their horizons seeing future employment in terms of casual and low paid rather than considering further education and training.

The project seeks to remove such feelings and enable young mothers to pursue aspirations and gain skills.
