GFS Platform: The Girls Friendly Society in England and Wales - Respect, encouragement and skills for all young women. Working with women where they are since 1975
Our Branches

GFS Platform's Voluntary Youth Work takes place across England and Wales in rural and urban areas.

Our youth work branches run a range of activities for school aged girls and young women. Trained volunteers, many of whom are GFS members, encourage personal and spiritual development through fun-filled activities. Our single sex youth work enables girls and young women to grow in friendship and confidence in a safe space - promoting mutual support, good citizenship, independence and the development of new skills.

The work is often in places where there is little for young people to engage with away from the school environment. For many girls and young women branch work provides stability and an opportunity for them all to support each other, regardless of age and background.

Girls and young women are invited to take part in programme planning giving them a sense of ownership. The work offers girls and young women a unique service that provides new experiences and learning opportunities that broadens their horizons and motivates them to seek out different and rewarding challenges.

Our Branches offer:

  • A single gendered, supportive and non-judgemental environment for girls and young women.
  • The opportunity to explore personal and spiritual development.
  • Arts and Crafts: exploring creativity.
  • Performing Arts: including performing dramas at community centres and nursing homes.
  • Environment and Conservation: including engaging in recycling schemes and local conservation projects.
  • Staying safe: including personal and community safety.
